Support For Students

The Trustees believe that investment in students is vital for the long-term sustainablility of research in occupational and environmental health, and awards in support of students account for between a quarter and a third of the Foundation’s annual expenditure.

Annual Research Day

Each year, we organise a scientific meeting in London, at which students currently supported by the Foundation give short presentations on their work to an audience comprising Trustees (some of whom do not come from a medical or scientific background), senior researchers with links to the Foundation, and fellow students. This helps students to develop their presentational skills in a friendly and supportive environment, and enables the Trustees to keep abreast of their progress.

PhD Fellowships

Support for students is principally through Colt Foundation Fellowships, which fund students undertaking PhDs on topics in occupational and environmental health at UK universities. In total, more than 50 PhD students have been supported since the inception of the Foundation in 1978.
